Wenger: Don’t blame Giroud for Arsenal defeat

Monaco left the Emirates Stadium with a 3-1 away win, the goals coming from Geoffrey Kondogbia, former Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov, and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got a goal back for Arsenal before Ferreria-Carrasco restored the principality club’s two-goal lead while Giroud missed a number of chances to score, causing a section of the Arsenal support to vent their frustration with the France international.

Wenger has however said that there’s no point attaching blame to any player for the result, revealing that he didn’t hold Giroud responsible, praising Giroud’s efforts and insisting everything Arsenal do, good or bad, is done as a team.

“He is like everyone else, disappointed,” Wenger acknowledged at a Press conference prior to Arsenal’s Sunday Premier League game against Everton. “I hope it will not affect him, but he is a strong character. Personally I don’t blame him at all.

“We lost as a team, we fight for each other as a team. He worked hard for the team on the night,” Wenger, a former Monaco Coach, added. “He didn’t miss the chances on purpose. He wanted to score the goals, but it can happen. There is nobody to blame individually.”

Arsenal travel to Monaco for the return leg on March 17.

Chelsea won't sign new players - Jose Mourinho

Chelsea will make no signings in the January transfer window, says manager Jose Mourinho. The team has enough capable and balanced players to even out in the coming competitions. The Blues have six matches before January 1, with the first starting today against Hull City. Mourinho plans to rest his senior players for this Yuletide season, saying he is doubtful any one player should appear in all the six matches. The manager has granted his European-based players a two-day 'holiday' to rest and 'have a nice dinner with their families'. The former Real Madrid manager's side meets Hull City in the Premier league today. Petr Cech will replace injured skipper goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the Hull City face-off. Cesc Fabregas is ruled out for suspension and midfielder Nemanja Matic joins the squad after ban.
