‘Tottenham have to take their chance in Capital One Cup final’

Scholes, a League Cup winner with United in the 2008-09 season and again in 2009-10, said that for Spurs’ young side - which includes the likes of the prolific striker Harry Kane and midfielders Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb

it’s an opportunity to land a first trophy at an early stage in their careers. Kane is 21, Mason is 23 and Bentaleb is 20, while Scholes was 21 when he claimed his first Premier League title at United.

“Do they have the courage to win a one-off match? Quite simply, do they have the balls to take risks?” Scholes asked. “We know that the current Chelsea team is capable of seizing the moment. The question marks are more about Tottenham

“I am sure that they will all have very good careers but it comes down to how much you have won in the end, and winning finals is difficult,” he continued. “A cup final is all about seizing the moment. On Sunday we will find out what this good young Spurs team are like when the pressure is really on.”

Scholes was part of United teams that beat Spurs on penalties in the 2009 final, playing 108 minutes of the match, and was an unused substitute a year later as United dispatched Aston Villa 2-1. James Milner, now of Manchester City, gave Villa an early lead from the penalty spot, before Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney scored to give United consecutive League Cup wins.

Hull City Manager chides Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen following Spurs' 2-1 win

Following Spurs' 2-1 win over Hull City, City manager Steve Bruce lashed out at Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen for exaggerating to get Hull City's Ramirez Gaston red-carded. Bruce castigated such act as unhealthy for the Premier League. The Uruguayan midfielder Ramirez got the red card for kicking at Belgian Jan Vertonghen. Bruce argued his man only showed "petulance" when he was provoked by Jan. And such behaviour could not be regarded as "violent". The City went down when Tottenham's Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen found the net in the game's second half. Speaking with his news conference, Bruce said, "Ramirez has shown petulance. Vertonghen has had a little go at him, and Ramirez has flicked out. The law says it is a violent conduct. For me, it is an act of petulance -- it is not violent conduct." Via espn
