Queens Park Rangers 1-2 Arsenal: Giroud & Sanchez score to seal crucial away win in top-four hunt

The first-half was goalless between the two clubs, with Arsenal missing chances to go ahead.

The Gunners boasted the lion’s share of possession as expected, but were forced to be patient as Rangers were frustrating the visitors at Loftus Park. QPR striker Charlie Austin could well have put the home side ahead in the first-half, but was guilty of being wasteful in front of goal.

After the break, Arsenal did finally go ahead. Olivier Giroud continued his fine run of form in front of goal to put the London side into the lead. The French international has been in great form, and his goal set Arsenal on their way.

Minutes later, teammate Alexis Sanchez scored from a narrow angle to double the Gunners’ lead. The Chilean international had suffered a goal drought previously but gave them daylight with his effort.

Charlie Austin pulled a goal back for Queens Park Rangers, and it set up a rousing finale, but all the points went the way of Arsenal.
