Jagielka: Everton have to improve

The Liverpool club were on Wednesday night beaten by Stoke City, going down to a defeat through goals from Victor Moses and Mame Biram Diouf.

The result leaves Everton in 14th place, six points clear of Queens Park Rangers, who occupy the last place in the bottom three, but the London club have a game in hand, to be played this weekend, at home against Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton have now won only once in their last 10 league games, drawing four and losing five, and were beaten on Boxing Day at Goodison Park by the Potters, Spanish forward Bojan Krkic scoring what proved to be the match’s only goal via a first half penalty.

Jagielka, who moved to Everton from Sheffield United in the summer of 2007, said that with the end of the campaign in sight, an improvement is badly needed. “We have 10 games left now in the Premier League and need to start picking up points,” the England international acknowledged.

“With 10 games to go that is not where you want to be,” he continued. “We, as players, know we need to buck our ideas up, start performing better and take pressure off the manager, pressure off ourselves and start getting some more points.

“We still have that six-point gap [to the bottom three] but we are not taking anything lightly. We have some tough games coming up and we need to start winning sooner, rather than later.”
