Arsene Wenger says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is out for up to four weeks through injury

The England international picked up the injury in Arsenal’s FA Cup win against Manchester United. Prior to limping off, the former Southampton man was outstanding against Louis van Gaal side, but his latest injury is yet another setback.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had only just returned from a groin injury at the end of February, and manager Arsene Wenger admitted how frustrating it is to be without such a key player for the business end to the season.

“It's frustrating. It's a shame that in the final sprint, he's not there. He showed on Monday night what a important player he can be for Arsenal and for England," he said.

There’s little doubt about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s ability and potential, but the 21-year-old just cannot stay fit during the course of a season. It means his place in the Arsenal side can never be guaranteed if his replacement makes the spot his own.

Wenger has made his feelings clear on the young midfielder, and believes him to have all the hallmarks to be a top player in the future. But he’s now on the treatment table, with Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere for company, and it continues to blight his young career.
