Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney must find a way to end six-match drought at Everton

Louis van Gaal has challenged Wayne Rooney to improve on a poor goalscoring record at his old club Everton as the Manchester United striker returns to Goodison Park on Saturday.

Rooney has been declared fit to play despite missing England’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania with an ankle injury.

But he has failed to score on his last six visits to Goodison, a run stretching back eight-and-a-half years to United’s 4-2 win on Merseyside in April 2007. In fact, Rooney’s last away goal anywhere in the Premier League came 11 months ago.
