Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker says back-bumping celebration with Theo Walcott is a sign of the 'special' team spirit

Per Mertesacker has hailed the team spirit at Arsenal, claiming his familiar post-match celebration with Theo Walcott is a sign of the belief in a genuine title challenge growing at the club.
Mertesacker was seen jumping and bumping backs with his team-mate following the Gunners' impressive 3-0 win over Manchester United a fortnight ago - a routine that is repeated after most landmark victories.

The North London club's vice-captain no longer finds himself a guaranteed starter in Arsene Wenger's side, but Mertesacker believes the tight bond at the Emirates is what makes the squad 'special'.

'I have no idea how that came about,' he told Arsenal Player when asked about his curious celebration with Walcott. 'It is just a small idea and we have just put it into practice, like a good habit.

'It reminds us always that [games are] hard work, but we enjoy ourselves, we enjoy playing together and trust each other.

'Small details makes this squad a special one. We are looking forward to having some good celebrations after the game.'
