Cesc Fabregas has laser pointed in his face as he misses penalty for Spain... while Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho watches

Cesc Fabregas missed his fourth penalty in as many attempts at international level as Spain beat Ukraine 1-0 in their final Euro 2016 qualifier, while Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was watching on in Kiev.

The midfielder, who was having a laser pointed in his face as he stepped up to the spot, was captaining his country on his 100th appearance but saw his effort saved by Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov.

Mario Gaspar had already given Spain the lead on his international debut, and it was enough for Vicente del Bosque's side to secure the victory.

Despite his lamentable displays from the spot during normal time for his country, Fabregas has a far more impressive record in penalty shootouts.

Twice he has stepped up to convert the winning penalty in a knockout game for Spain, against Italy in the quarter-final of Euro 2008, and against Portugal in the semi-final of Euro 2012. Both times they went on to win the tournament.

But the miss on Monday night wouldn't have impressed his boss at club level, Mourinho, who was in attendance at the Olympic Stadium after making the long trip from London.
