Messi will be the best-paid player in the world, says Barcelona President

Barcelona has vowed to make fresh deals with Messi in the new year as the 29-year old shows readiness to stay in the Camp Nou.

Most star players in Barcelona like Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid have renewed their contracts. Ronaldo's new deal gives him €430,000 per week which makes him the world's top earner.

But Barcelona President has said that Messi whose contract expires in 2018 will have his contract extended and his pay will be increased according to his golden status.

He said, "For me, the Ballon d'Or should have been won by Messi every year. When you hear the rest of the world speak about him, there's no possible doubt. You don't need to be a Barca fan to recognise the merits of Messi the player. He's No. 1 without doubt.

"I don't want to talk about numbers really. If he's the best player in the world, though, then he should be the best player in the world in all aspects, even economically. That's all I will say on numbers."

Hull City Manager chides Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen following Spurs' 2-1 win

Following Spurs' 2-1 win over Hull City, City manager Steve Bruce lashed out at Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen for exaggerating to get Hull City's Ramirez Gaston red-carded. Bruce castigated such act as unhealthy for the Premier League. The Uruguayan midfielder Ramirez got the red card for kicking at Belgian Jan Vertonghen. Bruce argued his man only showed "petulance" when he was provoked by Jan. And such behaviour could not be regarded as "violent". The City went down when Tottenham's Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen found the net in the game's second half. Speaking with his news conference, Bruce said, "Ramirez has shown petulance. Vertonghen has had a little go at him, and Ramirez has flicked out. The law says it is a violent conduct. For me, it is an act of petulance -- it is not violent conduct." Via espn
