Jesse Lingard called up to England squad, Jamie Vardy ruled out

Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard has been called up to the England squad for Tuesday night's friendly against France. The 22-year-old will link up with the Three Lions this afternoon after impressing for his club side in recent weeks.Lingard will take the place of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who has been ruled out of the match due to a knock sustained against Watford last weekend.

England boss Roy Hodgson had hinted that Vardy was in line to start against either Spain or France, but the Premier League's top scorer has been forced to sit out both games. There is also some bad news for Michael Carrick, as the injury he picked up in the 2-0 defeat in Alicante on Friday evening is enough to keep him out of the squad.Lingard has never previously featured for the senior side, but has represented England at various age levels up to and including the Under-21s.Tuesday's friendly at Wembley is expected to go ahead as initially planned despite the terror attacks in Paris that sent shockwaves around the world.
