The Liverpool manager said he was “relaxed” over the stand-off that has seen Sterling reject a £100,000-a-week deal, but was defiant that the youngster’s immediate future remained at Anfield.
“He’s got two and a half years left on his contract and he
is not going anywhere,” said Rodgers. “Liverpool is one of the
super-powers. The owners have shown that if they don’t
want to sell, they won’t sell.
“If any player ever left Raheem or any other, it would be on
the terms of the club."
Raheem Sterling is staying at Liverpool, says Brendan
Rodgers
The
interview with the BBC in which Sterling confirmed he did
not want to discuss a new contract until the summer came a
“surprise” said Rodgers.
"He said his ambition is to win trophies and be successful and
that’s perfectly aligned with what we want to do," said
Rodgers.
"This is Liverpool, one of great clubs in football world and
it’s an honour for him to be playing here.
"He understands that."
Daniel Sturridge has trained after missing England’s games
with a hip injury and, barring a setback in tomorrow’s
session, will be included in the squad for the trip to Arsenal.
Liverpool will be without suspended duo Steven Gerrard and
Martin Skrtel, who both begin three match bans.
