Spain FA President and son arrested amid Anti-corruption investigation

Spanish FA president Angel Maria Villar and his son, former CONMEBOL executive Gorka Villar, and a third man have been arrested amid an anti-corruption investigation.

Over Angel Villar's seven terms as RFEF president, there have been several allegations of a lack of transparency within the Spanish FA. His son Gorka stepped down as CONMEBOL director general in July 2016, after his time also brought many allegations of wrongdoing while he was at the South American federation.

The raid came two days before an RFEF assembly set for July 20, at which the dates for Spanish football's 2017-18 calendar were due to be officially decided.
