Louis van Gaal confident Manchester United can still challenge for league title

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has not given up hope on his team challenging for the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils are currently in fifth place, 10 points behind leaders Leicester City.
On Sunday, they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and despite the Blues' drop down the table, United have only claimed one victory in 13 league visits to the stadium.
Chelsea head into the game on the back of a nine-game unbeaten run, and Van Gaal believes that if his team can nab all three points this weekend, they can restart their title bid.

"Since Guus Hiddink is there they don't lose anymore so it is not so easy so then I think our league [challenge] shall start again - that is very important," Van Gaal told reporters.

"Michael Carrick said that and I had the same feeling. The competition is not finished. Not for Manchester United and not for the other teams. In this competition everything is possible.

"We have the feeling and that is beginning [now] we are winning in a row two times and with sparking football, with goals, with clean sheets, against opponents who were in great form."
In this fixture at Old Trafford on December 28, the two sides played out a goalless draw.

Chelsea won't sign new players - Jose Mourinho

Chelsea will make no signings in the January transfer window, says manager Jose Mourinho. The team has enough capable and balanced players to even out in the coming competitions. The Blues have six matches before January 1, with the first starting today against Hull City. Mourinho plans to rest his senior players for this Yuletide season, saying he is doubtful any one player should appear in all the six matches. The manager has granted his European-based players a two-day 'holiday' to rest and 'have a nice dinner with their families'. The former Real Madrid manager's side meets Hull City in the Premier league today. Petr Cech will replace injured skipper goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the Hull City face-off. Cesc Fabregas is ruled out for suspension and midfielder Nemanja Matic joins the squad after ban.
